I've pretty much thrown in the towel for serious app development using Flash. There are just too many restrictions. Plus I'm very much loving C# right now, so the current plans for BOT v2.0 have moved on to a full C# application but utilizing flash as the front end.
I've done some searches and found some examples on embedding flash in a Windows form, so I should be cool to go ahead with coding. My class structure thankfully can be ported over to C# rather painlessly since I was coding it in Actionscript 2.0.
The downside is that it would be a windows only thing unless I can get Mono to compile it fine. I haven't messed much with the Mono compiler yet, so right now I have no idea what's possible/missing, etc.
My current timeline is to have a barebones blog app beta by December. So all 1 of you who find this site (via the old Jenneth archives perhaps?) that's the scoop.
Oh yeah, it'll be done in the .NET compact framework, so it should run fine on PPCs that have the framework installed.
More to come in like a month or so.
So I switched over from Your-Site to Dreamhost as my web host. In the switchover I messed up this site for a bit, so things were inaccessible for a few weeks. Whoops.
v2 is still in development and also in slight limbo as I toy with the notion of doing a complete SOAP version to support the new Atom standard. I'm not too happy with how FlashMX2004 does RPC at all. On the other hand, there's no flash 7 player for PPC yet, so SOAP is not really worth it just yet.
slowly but surely. . .
It's slow going on version 2 of B.O.T., but it
is on its way. This OOP stuff isn't exactly the quickest stuff to churn out. :(
Yet another EXE. . .
Ok, fully functional EXE is now available to download. No more expiring. So please, give it a shot.
well I purchased FlashPack, so my serial # should be in my hands soon. In the meantime I updated the trial exe that was there with a new one (will expire tomorrow: 10/6/03) until I can put an offical non-expiring one there tomorrow.
Sorry for this nonsense!
Since enough people seem to want to grab the exe version over the swf, I'm going to go ahead and purchase FlashPack. This will do away with this one day expiring exes.
Sorry for the annoyance, everyone. New exes will be uploaded in a few hours when I get home. I'll post the change as well.
So we finally have a beta to play with. *applause*
This release is very bare bones, feature-wise. Basic posting and editing. . . and not much else. :) It does work with Movable Type, using the bloger 1.0 API, though, so say goodbye to titles, categories, etc. I will be adding full MT support in the final v2 release (which I'm coding up now), but for now, it's probably more useful to users of Blogger.com weblogs.
This app can be used on a desktop too, though with apps like w.Bloggar and BlogBuddy out there why would you? The target audience here is PPC PDA users, and it's you guys that I'm hoping to get feedback from. I have two versions of the file in the download section for you to mess with. The first is the .swf itself. If you grab that version, I suggest you run it using a program like FlashAssist at 240x290.
The other file is a PPC executable made with the demo version of FlashPack. I'm considering purchasing this app, but I'd like some feedback from users to let me know what the experience/performace is like on their devices. So please, drop me a line to let me know.
So grab it and test it out, let me know about any bugs, feature requests, etc. Check the October 1st post below for some stuff that will be in the next release, too.
This is a test from a Dell Axim using the free wifi at Bryant Park. . .
